Obituary

Mrs. Velva Dean DuBose Patterson, age 83, of Adairsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

She was born December 30, 1937 in Sumter County, South Carolina to the late Walter Harrison DuBose, Sr. and Mary Alice Baker DuBose. Velva graduated from North Charleston High School in 1954, the College of Charleston in 1978 with a degree in Elementary Education, and later received her Masters in Education. She taught for 25 years at Stono Park Elementary and Springfield Elementary in the Charleston County School District. "Educating the minds of young children" was her passion. She was of the Christian Faith and was a member of Adairsville Baptist Church. She was also a past member of Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, SC. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting as well as traveling with her family. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Patterson, Sr, sister, Kathryn DuBose Williams, brother, Walter "Buddy" DuBose, Jr.; and father and mother-in-law, Omar H. and Patricia "Patsy" Patterson.

She is survived by her loving children, John T. Patterson, Jr and wife Angela of Seymour, TN, Adena Patterson Harper and husband, John of Adairsville, GA, and Omar DuBose Patterson and wife Jirawan of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Robert DuBose and wife Linda of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, John T. Patterson, III, Nathan A. Patterson and wife Taylor, Megan Patterson Kirby, Seth M. Harper, Shane C. Harper, Dakota Patterson and wife Mary Ellen, Montana Patterson and wife Shelby and Ella Patterson; great granddaughter, Blakely Kirby and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Velva's Life will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 4:00 PM at the Adairsville Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Sorrell officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A graveside service will be held at later date at the Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Adairsville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Velva's memory to the Adairsville Baptist Church, P. O. Box 301, Adairsville, GA, 30103.
